Your privacy

Houndy collects as little as it can. Here's what we keep, why, and how to have it deleted.

Who we are

Houndy (houndy.com.au and houndy.dog) is a map of dog-friendly camps, walks, off-lead areas and venues, run from Sydney, Australia. If you have a question about your information, email hello@houndy.com.au.

What we collect

  • Your email address, if you sign up for updates or create an account. Signing in works by emailed link, so we never hold a password.
  • A display name and home area, if you add them to your account.
  • What you contribute: rule check-ins, reviews, ratings and photos (including photos of signs), with the date and the place they're about. These are shown publicly with your display name.
  • Your saved places (Saved, Want to go and Been there). Without an account they stay on your own device and we never see them. With an account they're stored with it so they work on all your devices.
  • Basic technical information that any website receives, such as your IP address and browser type, in our hosting providers' logs.

We don't collect your location. The “locate me” button on the map asks your browser for it and uses it on your device only.

Why we use it

  • To send the updates you signed up for. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To sign you in and keep your saved places and contributions together.
  • To show other dog owners when rules were last checked, and by whom.
  • To keep the site working, secure and free of spam.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising trackers.

Who else handles it

We use a few services to run Houndy. They may store information outside Australia, including in the United States:

  • Supabase, our database, sign-in and photo storage
  • Vercel, which hosts the website
  • OpenFreeMap, which serves the map tiles your browser loads
  • An email service, to send updates and sign-in links

Seeing, changing or deleting your information

Email hello@houndy.com.au from the address you used and we'll send you a copy, correct it, or delete your account and contributions. To clear saved places kept on your device, clear this site's data in your browser.

We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you're not happy with how we've handled a concern, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Big changes will also go out by email to subscribers.
